Bricklayers’ Twelfth Night to Return to Chicago for Two Performances Only
THIS WEEKEND July 18-19
CHICAGO, IL.—The Bricklayers’ production of TWELFTH NIGHT: GALAXY 4.2 returns to Chicago for two performances only, this weekend, July 18-19.
Space...Shakespeare's final frontier. Collectif Masque from France teams with Chicago's Bricklayers to create a Twelfth Night for the 31st century. Twins Viola and Sebastian’s spaceship crashes on war-torn planet Illyria in the remote Galaxy 4.2. In finding themselves, and each other, they each journey into love amid a broken-hearted civilization of masked clowns. Often hilarious and always strange, TWELFTH NIGHT: GALAXY 4.2 is not your English teacher’s Shakespeare.
Twelfth Night features Bricklayers Meredith Barry, Kyle Cadotte, Patrick Goulding, Matt Peterson, and Matt Trucano. With Mark Junek and Brianna Sloane. Directed by Mariana Araoz and Matt Trucano. Original Masks by Etienne Champion. Mask Acting Coach Christophe Patty. Sets by Marta Cicionesi. Lights by Ted Koshiol.. Costumes by Nieves Durand. Bricklayer djAppel provides live music and soundscape at every performance. Performances at Theatre Building Chicago, 1225 W. Belmont Ave, Chicago, IL. For tickets call 773 327 5252 or www.brownpapertickets.com.
About the Artists:
Formed in 2007, The Bricklayers Theatre Company trains as a collective and produces original adaptations of classic texts, fostering long-term collaboration with a core group of artists. We make art for our world (Chicago—USA—Earth) today, laying ritual with innovation to create the possibility for startling physical, intellectual, and emotional connections with our audience. Through outreach performances and workshops, we share our training and productions with a regional audience as ambassadors of Chicago theatre. Through our ongoing collaboration with French company Collectif Masque, we create and perform with mask in all of our productions.
Collectif Masque was formed in 2004 by Mariana Araoz, Etienne Champion, and Christophe Patty. Their productions include Pantalon’s Lesson (Original Mask) with Mario Gonzalez, directed by Christophe Patty, Threepenny Opera directed by Mariana Araoz, and George Dandin by Moliere with Mariana Araoz and Christophe Patty directed by Mario Gonzalez. As a company they have traveled all over France, with recent performances in Paris and Lisbon, Portugal. For more information www.collectifmasque.com
Since 1990, Mariana Araoz has toured France and Europe in more than ten masked productions, six directed by great actor/director/teacher Mario Gonzalez. She has directed Scapin by Molière (2005), La Rose de La Boca in 2006 and The uprising of the Third Reich by B. Brecht in 2007 at La Cave à Théâtre (Colombes, France), The Seven Deadly Sins in 2006 and Three Penny Opéra by Brecht in 2007 at Teater Halland in Varberg, Sweden. In addition to Twelfth Night she recently directed A Midsummer Night’s Dream with Sham in Paris.
