Theatre Building Chicago Year's-term Internships
We are a small non-profit theatre with three 148-seat performing spaces that are used by a great variety of different theatre troupes in Chicago and the mid-West region of the U.S. Our in-house producing program presents new musicals. We conduct a writers' workshop for authors of musical theatre in conjunction with a public presentation program for musicals in developmental formats.
We operate 52 weeks a year and have upwards of 700 performances and 300 short-term events annually. We are a very busy place with many grass roots, emergent companies and artists calling Theatre Building Chicago home. Since we have been at our Lakeview location in Chicago since 1977, we also occasionally act as a local neighborhood center for community and business meetings.
The basic internship work emphasizes administration rather than production or performance. The scope of the work can entail: working in the ticketing office and dealing directly with the general audience; assisting in marketing and fund raising with data-entry and preparing promotional and development mailings and brochures; our business operations, assisting our artistic director with writers' workshop communication and other artistic administration, attending workshop sessions to understand our musical theatre programs; stage managing or house managing musical program performances; performing on-going technical and facility refurbishment and housekeeping projects; attending staff and board meetings as well as other forums offered in the general lively arts community.
Our internship is a full-time year's-length position. The next position available starts September 2008.
